Lectures:

Trunk Show

(Trunk show is only available if transportation by car, procedures of each quilt will be discussed.)

Time: Approx. 1 to 1 ½ hrs. Questions are encouraged throughout the trunk show.

Do You Ask Yourself… What If?

This lecture deals with my journey from teacher to author to art quilter. The question: What if? has always fueled the creative process from idea to a series for me. As soon as I am working on a new concept, I am already asking myself… what if?

That question could simply be: what if I changed the size? Or what if I changed the construction? Or what if I changed the materials?

I would like to take you on a journey from a little doodle to a wonderful series and a most popular class. With the help of a power-point presentation I will take you, step by step, recollecting the birth and growth of this process called “Double Vision”, an Escher-type design worth exploring. You will never look at fabrics the same way. We will explore the marriage between your own manipulated fabrics and gorgeous commercial fabrics. Using lots of color, it is all about pattern on pattern and creating many layers, for illusions of depth. We will explore some of the actual quilts.

Time: Approx. 1 hour and Q & A

Obsessed With Circles… My Story

Let’s explore my obsession with circles. Since 1995 I have been experimenting with the interaction of curves and straight lines and the effects they create. How one quilt transformed me into a quilt designer and author. Where my ideas come from and how I work. Sharing my love for graphic quilt designs with emphasis on color, pattern and shape. And yes it is OK to mix your surface design fabrics with commercial ones. Lecture includes Power Point presentation and a small trunk show after the talk.

Time: Approx. 1 hour and Q & A

Double Visions: Curves and Circles That Create Wonderful Illusions

And how by using many layers, it will create illusions of depth. Emphasis will be on the use of color, pattern and the interaction they have on one another. The many procedures and options of styles, scale and construction will be discussed. If you are a fuser or if you prefer piecing, this Escher-type design is perfect for working in a series. The use of commercial fabrics as well as your own hand dyed and manipulated fabrics will be discussed.

Time: Approx. 1 hour and Q & A

From New Designs to Wonderful Series (a trunk show)

See how working in a series can help you develop a new design! This lecture will not only teach you how to develop a new design, but also gives you hints and tips on how to do this successfully. You will get to see first thru power point presentation how a doodle can become your next series and then we will explore the actual quilts.

Time: Approx. 1 hour and Q & A
This lecture is only available if in driving distance, because of the many quilts to be shown.

I’m stripping to show my curves!

Let us explore this simple procedure called: Strips ‘n Curves. This technique is a combination of strip piecing and curved piecing. This relationship between the straight and the curved lines are the key to creating dynamic designs! This technique is easy, fun and habit forming. You will learn this procedure and realize the many, many other design possibilities it has to offer. Many quilts and some slides to view and discuss. (Strips ‘n Curves book and templates available for purchase)

Time: Approx. 1 hour and Q & A (Includes slide presentation if desired)

The Wonderful Art of Stripping!

I am a stripper and I am darn good at it! This lecture let us take a closer look at strip piecing. There are so many design possibilities that start with simple strip piecing. We will explore just some of these designs namely:

All the Strips ‘n Curves designs as well as the many Bargello type quilts. Exploring color and texture that are so vital to the success of these techniques. The simple procedure of strips piecing and counter cutting, whether with curves or straight lines can make you become a great stripper as well!

Time: Approx. 1 hour and Q & A (Includes slide presentation if desired)

One Patch Plus (or Color, Design and Theme)

With the aid of slides and actual quilts we will explore this easy three step method: Color, Design and Theme. Showing you just how to see the world around you as a source of inspiration for color and using simple methods for creating the base (or quilt top) and finishing with some easy embellishing techniques. The manipulating of familiar shapes into new and exciting designs will be demonstrated. Is choosing color still the most difficult task for you? Then this is the method for you, color made easy. Let me show you my techniques for choosing colors and collecting fabrics and designing with simple shapes.

Color My Way!

Color is one of the most important elements of a quilt, yet for most quilters it seems to be the biggest obstacle. Show your students and clients just how easy this process can be. Starting with a photograph or a favorite piece of fabric and some easy to follow steps. You too can make the color and fabric selecting easier. We will explore this procedure with the aid of some slides and actual quilts.
