Strips ‘n Curves

Create wonderful and exciting quilts through a simple procedure called: Strips ‘n Curves. This technique is a combination of strip piecing and curved piecing. This relationship between the straight lines and the curved lines are the key to creating dynamic designs! This technique is easy, fun and habit forming. After learning the procedure you will realize the many, many other design possibilities it has to offer. From confident beginner to advanced, everyone can succeed. (Wall space is needed to “play” with design) (Templates and books available for purchase)

Time: Two Day Workshop (Can be done in a one day, but strata has to be sewn before class!)

A New Twist on Strips ‘n Curves

Featuring Swirl, Half Clamshell, Free-Form Curves and Strips ‘n Circles. Louisa introduces 4 design concepts, 2 template-based and 2 template-free as well as new designs using the old favorite templates such as Basic, Basic II, and the Mini Beg ‘n Borrow sets to create Overlapping and Crosscutting! Start with basic strip piecing and prepare to be amazed! (Wall space is needed to play with design) (Templates and books available for purchase)

Time: Two Day Workshop (Can be done as a one day, but strata has to be sewn before class!) Please note: this is a wonderful class and much more effective as a two day event!

A New Twist on Strips ‘n Curves with Crosscutting and Overlapping

New designs with the old favorite templates, strip piecing with Twists and Turns. Louisa will show you how to create more depth and movement with Strips ‘n Curves, by using the Basic, Basic II and Mini Beg ‘n Borrow sets together. Some paper piecing can be used. (Wall space is needed to play with design) (Templates and books available for purchase)

Time: Two Day Workshop (Can be done as a one day, but strata has to be sewn before class!) Please note: this is a wonderful class and much more effective as a two day event!

Interlocking Circles with Strips and Curves

Try your hand at free form Strips ‘n Curves. No acrylic templates in this class. You are the designer by simply drawing 3 or more circles and vertical and horizontal lines. Freezer paper will be used to transfer your design to your strips. Give it a try you will be amazed at the results of your one of a kind creations.

Time: All Day Workshop

Strips and Curves: The Other Designs

This class is created for the students, who have done the basic set and want to try their hand at the many other design possibilities the book has to offer. Such as: Basic Set II, Beg and Borrow, Negative Positive, , or simply a combination of all of these in one composition! Cutting your strips different sizes and combining different sizes in one strata are just some of the many design possibilities. Come and let’s play with Strips and Curves.

Time: Two Day Workshop (Could be done as a one day, but strata has to be sewn before class!)

The Advanced Set

This class is for the Fiber Artist, who is quilt savvy and wants more of a design class. This advanced set lends itself to more creative designs and gives the quilter many more design options. Because you are dealing with 3 inch, 6 inch and 9 inch blocks in one composition it is obviously more challenging. The piecing is a bit more intricate, but definitely the most rewarding.

Time: Two Day Workshop (Could be done as a one day, but several different sized strata have to be sewn before class!)

One Patch Plus (or Color, Design and Theme)

In just three easy steps: Color, Design and Theme, we will create beautiful quilts. Starting with a color source such as a picture or photograph, collecting the fabrics you see in this source, designing with simple shapes the base (or quilt top) and by embellishing further on the theme. Some of the shapes we will explore are: The Kite, The Curved Diamond, the Curved Kite and the Half Clamshell, etc.)

Time: All Day Workshop

The Curved Diamond

This all day class will be based on the simple “Spinning Star” design. By manipulating this simple shape and using lots of fabrics and textures we will create a one of a kind quilt. Color, texture and some embellishing techniques will be explored as well as an innovative border treatment called: Negative/Positive. Bring many, many fabrics in several color families, from lights to darks making sure they all color coordinate! Whatever your color source, work with a picture or a special piece of fabric or color scheme, but bring a lot!! If using several color families rely on transition fabrics to create a bridge from one color into the next. Wall space is needed to “play” with design. From confident beginner to advanced.

Time: All Day Workshop (As an extended workshop 4 sessions 2 hours each)

Bargello with a Twist

Explore the beautiful tapestry style of quiltmaking from start to finish. Create your own quilt by taking this method one step further adding a “little twist” with fabric, color and pattern! Regular Bargello, Twist and Turns, Fractured Bargello and Double Vision are just some of the new designs we will explore. Embellishing the Bargello for added interest will be discussed.

Time: Two day workshop is recommended.
